MakingChange is hosting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site in Howard County for the 2014 tax season. In preparation for the site’s opening, MakingChange is seeking volunteers to serve as tax preparers, quality reviewers, greeters and office staff. Volunteer tax preparers are trained to help with special credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child & Dependent Care Credit. Training and certification for volunteer tax preparers are offered free and sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service. No prior tax preparation or accounting experience is required.
The VITA site will operate on Monday and Wednesday nights from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm and on Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The site is open beginning Saturday, January 24, 2015 through April 11, 2015.
An orientation and software training sessions will be held prior to the start of the tax season. Tentative training dates are on Saturday, January 10th and 17th and Sunday, January 26th.
We are especially looking for volunteers who can generally commit to serving on a regular schedule for the duration of the tax season (approximately 8 to 10 sessions).
