MakingChange Elects Officers, New Board Members

Making Change has elected long time community leader Joanne Davis its new Chair. Other elected officers include Philip R. Simmerer, Vice Chair; Jason Slaughter, Secretary; and Rosa Scharf, Treasurer. Jeffrey McCarron is Past Chair.

Co-founder and partner of the Synergies Consulting Group, Davis is noted for her leadership of local non-profit organizations, including Leadership Howard County, the National Family Resiliency Center and Howard Community College’s Commission for the Future among others. She was a 2013 inductee in the Howard County Women’s Hall of Fame.

Simmerer is founder of Simmerer Insurance, a Laurel-based firm. Slaughter is Vice President and Mortgage Loan Originator of Clarksville Mortgage Corporation. Scharf is Senior Vice President for Howard Bank.  McCarron is Senior Vice President of The Columbia Bank.

Newly elected board members include Tom Burtzlaff, Muyata Jordan Langley and Antonio P. “Tony” Salazar. Burtzlaff is President of CMIT Solutions of Columbia, a computer support and IT consulting firm. Langley is Director of Programs for OAR (Opportunities, Alternatives and Resources), a community-based reentry and restorative justice nonprofit. Salazar is an attorney with Davis, Agnor, Rapaport and Skalny. Charles I. Ecker, former Superintendent of Schools for Carroll County and former Howard County Executive, is also a member of the board.

Mike Couch is the Executive Director of Making Change, which provides programs and services to help people develop the skills and motivation to change how they handle money.
