NACo 2021 Achievement Award

On July 12, 2021, County Executive, Dr. Calvin Ball presented one of twenty-seven awards to the Department of Housing and Community Development for its program “Overcoming Credit Challenges On the Road to Homeownership.” This program has contributed to the success in helping Howard County residents become homeowners through the Moderate-Income Housing Unit (MIHU) program. Applicants who apply to this program in need of counseling to address budgeting, debt management and/or credit challenges are required to complete a 4-week group education series delivered by MakingChange, Inc. The contribution that MakingChange, Inc provides to this program is the reason we were included in the recognition ceremony this morning. Here is a quote from Dr. Ball about this award:

Howard County is at the forefront of innovative and effective government solutions, and these awards are a testament to the incredibly hard-working employees dedicated to our community. NACo represents 3,069 county governments across the nation, and Howard County continues to stand out on good governance and creative problem solving. Especially amid a pandemic, the challenges we’ve faced over the past year encouraged our workforce to think creatively and look forward to modernizing our services and continue to make Howard County the best place to live, work, grow, and play. I’m beyond grateful to our County employees who work so hard to make Howard County the best place for all.
